The conflict in Jamaica Plain's Hyde Square over the coming Whole Foods is one of those little, hyperlocal stories that is, in its own way, about everything.

What's the difference between vitalization and gentrification? Can white flight be reversed without disrupting thriving minority communities? How much of a say should the popular will have in the transactions of private enterprise?
