Washington was aflurry Monday as both chambers of Congress prepare to vote on a deal that would raise the country's debt-ceiling in exchange for deep cuts in spending.

The deal was announced by President Obama Sunday night, who described it as not one he preferred and characterized the process as messy and far too long.

But preferred or not, the deal still has to pass through the Senate and the House. Party leaders worked Monday to build support around a deal popular with few.

Guests:

  • Rep. Frank Guinta, (R-NH)
  • Monica Brady-Myerov, reporter, WBUR

This segment aired on August 1, 2011.
