Gov. Deval Patrick's veto of expanded gaming legislation last year seemed to put an end to an ongoing debate about casinos in Massachusetts, but that debate was renewed Tuesday.

A new bill filed Tuesday would allow three resort style casinos and one so-called slot parlor, a provision which the governor had previously opposed. This bill was drafted in consultation with the governor's office, leading legislators to believe they are closer than ever to securing Patrick's signature.

However, opposition to gambling in Massachusetts still stands and the question of whether casinos will actually generate revenue for the state remains.
