Since 1996, the power pop group Fountains of Wayne has been producing witty and tightly crafted pop songs about life, love, human foibles, and failure.

The band was formed by songwriters Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger, who met as students at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. They started making music back in the Berkshires but eventually went their own ways, forming separate bands.

But the two reconnected again in the mid-1990s and an early demo landed them a deal with Atlantic Records. In 1996, Fountains of Wayne released their first self-titled album and around the same time, Schlesinger wrote and co-produced the title song for the Tom Hanks film, "That Thing You Do."

Four CDs, various individual projects, and one hiatus later, Fountains of Wayne recently released their fifth full-length album, "Sky Full of Holes."

Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger joined us in the studio to talk about the album and played a few songs.
