Catherine Greig, the longtime partner of James "Whitey" Bulger, was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday. Greig plead guilty earlier this year to various charges associated with harboring the notorious Boston fugitive. The prosecution had asked for a 10-year sentence, saying that this is one of the most extreme cases of harboring a fugitive in history.

Greig's defense, however, has insisted that her crime was one of love and that she should therefore receive a much lesser sentence.

WBUR's David Boeri is at the U.S. District Court in Boston where the trial is being held.
