To get your mind off all of this heat and high humidity, let's transport you to a different place during a different time of year: out on Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket... in November.

You can imagine it: cold, gray, white-caps flecking the dark seas.

The ferries have cut back, and the islands are on their own; as one writer once put it, bleak but beautiful in their "battened-down autumnal phase."

Yet here, in the off-season, when most "off-islanders" think there isn't much to do, the residents of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket prepare themselves for the biggest moment of the season: their storied football rivalry.
