South Boston is a very different neighborhood today than it was two decades ago.

However, Southie continues to be portrayed as a caricature: a home to hard-drinking criminals, tough townies and vulgar women with big hair and bad make-up.

At least six real production companies have been scouting the old neighborhood with plans for reality television shows, and two of them are already scheduled to hit the air soon.

Guests:

  • Billy Baker, reporter for The Boston Globe and South Boston native

This segment aired on August 7, 2012.
