Documentary Tells The Story Of The Boston Strangler

In the early 1960s, a gruesome string of murders terrified the Boston area. One after another, single women were being raped and murdered, leaving police mystified and much of the city afraid to go out after dark. A state task-force was created to hunt for a killer, who would become known as the Boston Strangler. By 1964, 13 women were dead.

A new documentary, "Stranglehold: In the Shadow of the Boston Strangler," tells the story of the notorious case through the lens of the detective who worked tirelessly to solve it — Phil DiNatale. A man named Albert DeSalvo confessed to the killings, but was never tried for them and was murdered in jail. Over the years, some have doubted the validity of DeSalvo's confession, but DiNatale remained convinced that DeSalvo was the Strangler.

DiNatale died in 1987, but he left behind stacks of case records, diaries and recordings from the case that came to define his life and haunt his family. Thus, "Stranglehold" is told by some of the people who knew DiNatale best — his son, John DiNatale, and grandson and filmmaker Myles David Jewell.
