War correspondent James Foley has reported from some of the most dangerous places in the world. In 2012, Foley was taken hostage in Libya while working for the Boston-based GlobalPost.

On Thanksgiving Day, he was captured by an unknown group of gunmen in Syria. Wednesday afternoon, Foley's parents — who live in Rochester, New Hampshire — called publicly for his release, after weeks of keeping the news a secret for their son's own safety.

Charles Sennott, executive editor and co-founder of GlobalPost, joins Radio Boston to talk about Foley and the incredibly dangerous year it has been for journalists around world.

This segment aired on January 3, 2013.
