CommonHealth: First-Year Doctors Soon Could Work 24-Hour Shifts

Starting July 1, medical interns that help staff Boston area teaching hospitals can work longer hours. They could work up to 24, in some cases 28, hours at a time — well above the current limit of 16 hours. The rule, implemented by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, is creating some controversy in the Massachusetts medical community.
