There seems to an app for everything these days, including a new fertility test can use a smartphone to take a man's sperm count in an at-home examination.

Although men and women experience infertility at equal rates, historically infertility has been seen as a woman's problem. Even today pharmacies are stocked with different over-the-counter options for women to assess and improve her chances of conception, while issues in men frequently go diagnosed because of stigma, cost, convenience and a lack of lab testing.

Dr. Hadi Shafiee and his research team developed the test, which should be available over the counter. He hopes the test will help close the clinical gap in fertility testing.
