A Walk Along Cape Cod's Outer Beach

It was Thoreau's words that bounded through our minds as we walked along Coast Guard Beach in Eastham with writer Robert Finch. His new book is, "The Outer Beach: A Thousand Mile Walk On Cape Cod's Atlantic Shore."

Finch has walked the Outer Beach for more than 50 years. On the day we meet him, it's high tide and the sky is blue-gray. The surf kicks up whitecaps, a restless herd of watery wild horses. A nor'easter is on the way.

We talk about the soulful rapport Finch has with the Outer Beach. And he reads the essay from his book about his first contact with the Cape, a half century ago.
