The Trump administration today is rolling back one of former President Obama's main initiatives to curb greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt says he will end Obama's Clean Power Plan, which tries to encourage states to move away from coal toward cleaner sources of power. But on Monday, in Kentucky, Pruitt told miners that the previous efforts by the Obama administration were "wrong."

"The previous administration was unapologetic," said Pruitt. "They were using every bit of power to use the EPA to pick winners and losers in how we generate electricity in this country."

Gina McCarthy, fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School and former head of the EPA from 2013-2017. She tweets at @GinaEPA.
