Erica Komisar, a psychoanalyst and parent guidance expert, says mothers should stay home during the first three years of the child's life.

In her book, "Be There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters," she writes the absence of mothers from infants' lives has led to an increase of emotional and developmental issue in children and teenagers, like ADHD, depression and aggression.

Because mothers are biologically necessary for babies, Komisar says society needs to do more to value mothers -- including expanding paid maternity leave.

Komisar returned to the program to finish our conversation. Here's Part 1.
