Starting tonight, all Registry of Motor Vehicle services will be unavailable until Monday morning, as the state upgrades its systems to roll out a new type of license — one that is compliant with federal Real ID standards.

Standard, non-Real ID Massachusetts licenses will still be available — but beginning in October 2020, those and current IDs will not be sufficient identification to board domestic flights or enter federal buildings.

And in order to get one of the new Real IDs, you'll have to go in person to the RMV and show supporting documentation.
