The Pulitzer Prize committee awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for music to a hiphop artist, Kendrick Lamar. Lamar is the first non-classical and non-jazz musician to ever win a Pulitzer Prize in music. The Pulitzer committee said the album "offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
