Disturbing testimony on Thursday at Boston federal court in day two of the trial of Francis "Cadillac Frank" Salemme, the former head of the New England Mafia.

Salemme is charged with the 1993 murder of South Boston nightclub owner Steven DiSarro to stop him from cooperating with the FBI.

The government's star witness, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi, also faced withering cross examination in his second day of testimony.

The trial is dredging up Boston's violent past, tying together Salemme; James "Whitey" Bulger, who ruled the so-called Irish mob; and Flemmi, a criminal who ran with them both.
