When school lets out for summer, some teens get jobs, and others go away on vacation or to camp. But some stick around Boston and spend their days at the YMCA.

"I come to the YMCA to play basketball, participate in different events. I just try to stay out of trouble," said Christopher Owens, 16.

He says he's been coming to the Y since he was a baby. "The Y really raised me," Owens said.

Last summer, the YMCA of Greater Boston gave away 15,000 memberships to teens for free, and this year, the goal is 18,000. It's part of an effort to keep Boston's youth safe, active and well-fed while school is out.

But how does the Y make sure it's reaching the teens who need it the most?
