Despite being born in Boston, Edgar Allan Poe was often at odds with the Boston literati, many of whom are buried at Cambridge's Mount Auburn Cemetery.

While he was laid to rest in Baltimore, Poe came "back to life" at the Mount Auburn Cemetery this fall for a reading of his works — among the graves of some of his literary rivals.

"I think what Poe did that was a little different was he added another level, it wasn't just a straightforward spooky or gory story," said Rob Velella, a literary historian who portrayed Poe at this reading.

"It was less about the murder and more about the murderer... he's really trying to delve into the negative side of human nature," said Velella.
