10.23.2001 The Price of Terror Listen Listen

Forums: How have you been impacted economically since Sept. 11th?

The September 11th attacks may have been a symbolic strike against the emblem of American economic might, but the overall result has been a direct hit on the economy itself. Many shoppers are avoiding the malls, and, with the current anthrax scare, many now fear shopping online or through catalogs. The travel industry has taken a big hit, and a recession, a possibility two months ago, now seems like a foregone conclusion.

Have the terrorist attacks exposed how vulnerable our economy really is? Can anything be done to recover from this economic shock?

    Exit Strategy Listen Listen

The "Powell Doctrine" has guided the past several administrations in how to engage in military activities. The doctrine calls for Washington to have a clear political goal and a plan for extracting American forces from the battlefield before it fires any shots. In the current campaign in Afghanistan, it appears that the Powell Doctrine has gone by the wayside.

What is America's exit strategy in the current conflict? Are we in danger of getting dragged into another Vietnam? Or does this new type of war require a different set of strategies?
