BOSTON — The mass murder two weeks ago has put a spotlight on Mattapan that many residents are not happy about. No one is saying the media shouldn’t have covered the murders in Mattapan — the problem for many people was how it was covered and how reporters write about Mattapan the rest of the year.

BOSTON — In a city that’s seen its share of murders, these killings stand out because they broke the rule, people say. Women and children aren’t supposed to die in drug or gang disputes. The open casket at this funeral forced everyone here to confront the reality of these shootings.

BOSTON — As the congregation mourned for 21-year-old Eyanna Flonory and her 2-year-old son, Amani Smith — victims of last week’s quadruple-homicide in Mattapan — the bishop at Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan vowed a prayer campaign to end the reign of violence.
