On this week's show, distinguished drama critic, author and playwright John Lahr spoke on "Comedy and Revenge." His talk was a probing and humorous discussion of such influential comedians as Charlie Chaplin, Bert Lahr, Rosanne, Buster Keaton, Woody Allen, Barry Humphries and Joe Orton. He delivered this talk at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Libraries of Boston University.

The son of comedy legend Bert Lahr, John Lahr is the author or editor of 25 books of essays, biographies, play anthologies, stage adaptations, screenplays, and novels, and has been the senior theatre critic and profile writer for "The New Yorker" since 1992. Lahr's latest book of essays, "Show and Tell: New Yorker Profiles" (2000), collects 15 of his best New Yorker profiles, examining such figures as Woody Allen, David Mamet, Arthur Miller, Frank Sinatra, and Ingmar Bergman.
