This week's show featured excerpts from the festivities of the 40th anniversary of the Special Collections at Boston University. Some of the collection's items include BU alumnus Martin Luther King Jr.'s papers, Fred Astaire's dance shoes and Gene Kelly's Oscar for "Singing in the Rain."

These festivities also commemorated achievements in contemporary archiving by Howard Gotlieb, the founder and chief curator of the Special Collections. Boston University's President-elect Daniel S. Goldin announced that the collections would be renamed in honor of their founder, "The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center."

The excerpts featured comments by author David Halberstam, actress Angela Lansbury, Boston University Chancellor John Silber, Boston University President-Elect Daniel Goldin, and Dr. Howard Gotlieb himself.

This program aired on October 5, 2003.
