This week's show featured a talk by author Peter Manseau titled "Memoir As Midrash" that was sponsored by the Luce Program in Scripture and Literary Arts in cooperation with The Institute for Philosophy and Religion at Boston University.

Peter Manseau's newest book is "Vows: The Story of a Priest, a Nun, and Their Son," a memoir which tells the story of his family's struggle to reconcile the obligations of faith and the necessity of love.

Manseau's father, a censured priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, has refused for decades to resign his ordination to the priesthood, despite his marriage and three children. Peter's mother, a teaching sister through the 1960s in riot-torn Roxbury, MA, recently found herself at the center of another storm in the volatile history of the city and the church.

This program aired on September 3, 2006.
