Shays No Longer Last Republican Standing

New England's last Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives has been voted out of office. Connecticut's Christopher Shays, a 21 year incumbent, was defeated today by Democrat Jim Himes in his bid for re-election.

In his concession speech tonight, Shays said, "We lost an election, but we didn't lose our souls."

Himes is a former vice president at Goldman Sachs, and is currently a developer of non-profit housing.

This program aired on November 4, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
