Bruins Fans Cheer On Stanley Cup Champions

For one night, the hockey game wasn't about wins or goals, it wasn't even about the puck. Bruins fans were looking only at the Cup.

The Boston Bruins raised the 2011 Stanley Cup title banner to the TD Garden rafters Thursday night and introduced fans to the piece of hardware they had been craving for years.

The 2011 Stanley Cup was the team's first title since 1972 and fans celebrated as if it had been a long time coming. In a pregame ceremony the Jumbotron displayed highlights of last season's thrilling playoffs, which featured three Game 7 do-or-die games. The crowd serenaded 2011 heroes Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic and Mark Recchi with cheers. And members of the 1972 title-winning team, including Bruins icon Bobby Orr, helped raise the 2011 banner.

Though the team suffered a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, Bruins fans will soon forget the game that opened hockey's 2011-12 season.
