Photos: Gun Salute As Old Ironsides Makes Final Boston Harbor Voyage Before Revamp
Approximately 300 people gathered on Castle Island Friday to give the USS Constitution — the Navy’s oldest commissioned warship — a proper bon voyage for her final trip around Boston Harbor before docking on dry land for some structural repairs.
Restoring the nearly 217-year-old Boston naval icon may take up to three years. Though its sails have already been removed, Old Ironsides will remain open for tours at the Charlestown Navy Yard until it enters into drydock next March.
