What's expected to be only the first phase of the Boston Marathon bombing trial is coming to an end. After closing arguments Monday morning, federal court jurors will begin deliberating the guilt or innocence of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on 30 federal charges.

Tsarnaev's lawyers have already told jurors he is responsible for the bombings and deserves punishment. But they forced the prosecution to lay out the case against their client anyway.

For a preview of jury deliberations in this case, retired federal judge Nancy Gertner of Harvard Law school joined WBUR's Morning Edition.

This segment aired on April 6, 2015.
