1 Dead After 4-Alarm Blaze At Arlington Condo Complex

Authorities say one person has died in an early morning four-alarm fire at an Arlington condominium complex that sent residents scrambling into the streets with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.

The victim's name was not immediately made public pending notification of family.

The blaze at the Brookside Condominium Complex was reported at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

“Residents were woken up abruptly,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement. “Many of them heard pounding on their doors and cries to ‘get out quickly.’ This still is an active investigation with a great deal of debris for investigators to comb through as they seek to determine exactly what happened early this morning.”

Fire Chief Robert Jefferson says 36 units were destroyed or damaged as well as several vehicles in the complex's parking lot.

Video from the scene showed flames shooting from the ground floor to the roof of the three-story building.

Fire departments from several surrounding communities also responded to the blaze.
