Officer Wounded In Bomber Shootout Is Promoted

The MBTA transit officer who was injured during the Watertown shootout with the Boston Marathon bombers has been promoted.

Richard "Dic" Donohue became a sergeant at a ceremony on Friday.

Addressing the media after his swearing-in, Sgt. Donohue said he returned to work in March — after almost two years of recovery.

During the 2013 shootout, a bullet ripped through his thigh, severing his femoral artery. He suffered massive blood loss as a result of the wound.

Donohue said he studied for the sergeant exam while recovering.

"Recovering from that and studying some of the books made for a heckuva summer, but it paid off in the end," he said.
