2 Teens Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Dorchester 16-Year-Old

Boston police say two teens were arrested Saturday in the death of a 16-year-old boy who was gunned down while riding his bike.

Police Commissioner William Evans and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced the arrests at a news conference on Saturday.

"It's tragic, but at least we're happy to announce for the family that we got the two individuals who we believe are responsible," Evans said.

The victim, Jonathan Dos Santos, was fatally shot Wednesday evening while riding his bike in the city's Dorchester neighborhood.

Dushawn Taylor-Gennis, 16, of Dorchester, and an unidentified 14-year old from Mattapan will be charged as adults with murder and firearms offenses, according to the Suffolk County district attorney's office.

Evans said it was not yet known if the shooting was gang-related and the motive remains under investigation. He said the suspects' mothers cooperated in the probe.

"This is a tragedy. We lost a 16-year-old and two other juveniles arrested today. Three families — their lives have been shattered here," Walsh said. "We need the community to help us take back the streets."

Evans said police are doing what they can, but asked parents and community leaders to do their part to make the city safe this summer.

The suspects will be arraigned on Monday in Dorchester Municipal Court.
