The pressure is on for Boston 2024 to generate more public support for its plan to host the Olympics here.

The U.S. Olympic Committee has told the organizing group it will be watching poll numbers closely in the coming weeks.

Ultimately, if support doesn't increase significantly, the USOC could drop Boston as its proposed host city for the 2024 Summer Games.

We spoke with WBUR's Curt Nickisch Wednesday before he left California, where the USOC met with Boston Olympics organizers Tuesday. We asked him why widespread public support — backed up by polling numbers — is so important to the USOC. Listen to the full conversation above.

This segment aired on July 1, 2015.
