FBI Names Counterintelligence Expert To Head Boston Division

Harold Shaw, a counterintelligence expert who has investigated international and domestic terrorism cases, has been named the new special agent in charge of the FBI's Boston division, the FBI announced Tuesday.

Shaw, 49, began working for the FBI in 1999 and most recently worked as the special agent in charge of the Counterintelligence Division of the FBI's New York division. He will succeed Vincent Lisi, who retired last week. Shaw is scheduled to step into his new role in October.

During his career, Shaw has investigated a variety of cases, including the USS Cole bombing in Yemen in 2000. Following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, he worked as a case agent, pursuing leads tied to the attacks for the next two years.

In 2003, he was promoted to supervisory special agent and was detailed to the CIA's Counterterrorism Center, where he worked as one of the first liaison officers between the FBI and CIA in the post 9/11 era.

In 2011, Shaw was named assistant special agent in charge within the Counterterrorism Division of the FBI's New York division, where he helped manage the division's international terrorism investigations. In that position, he led collaborative efforts to disrupt the 2013 attempted bombings of the New York Federal Reserve. He also worked to help identify and locate people tied to the 2012 attacks in Benghazi.

He was named special agent in charge of the Counterintelligence Division in New York in July 2014.
