A major water main break in Cambridge is disrupting traffic in Harvard Square.

The Cambridge Police Department says the break at the intersection of JFK and Mt Auburn streets was reported just after midnight and there is no timetable for how long it might take to fix it.

As of Friday morning, access to Harvard Square from Memorial Drive via JFK Street was closed, and just one lane was open on JFK Street between Eliot and Mt Auburn streets. Brattle Square was also closed.

Officials believe traffic could be disrupted through the weekend.

No information was released about the cause of the break.
