While some are still getting over last winter's historic snowfall, the National Weather Service is out with its long-range winter forecast.

It predicts a milder winter than average in the Northeast, influenced by warm water in the Pacific Ocean from the newest El Niño.

WBUR meteorologist David Epstein joined Morning Edition to explain the forecast locally.

This segment aired on October 16, 2015.
