Piglet Joins His Bronze Posse At Newton Library
The public artist who made the famous "Make Way For Ducklings" sculpture in the Boston Public Garden is adding to her Winnie the Pooh Posse Saturday morning at the Newton Free Library.
Nancy Schön sculpted Eeyore in 1991, and Pooh in 2002. Now she's cast Piglet in bronze.
"He has pluck," Schön said with a laugh, adding, "I just love him. I mean I love all these characters — they’re so sweet."
But her Newton Free Library sculptures have a serious side, Schön said, because they're all dedicated to real children who've died.
"I’ve tried to turn all of my sad sculptures into happy times, and times when children can play," she said.
As for what her new Piglet is doing, she said, "He's whispering a secret to Pooh — but what that secret is we’ll never know."
Schön would love to complete the Winnie the Pooh set, but doesn't know quite when that will be.
