Eschenbach Joins Nelsons On BSO Disabled List
The Boston Symphony Orchestra is experiencing some bad luck. Two more cancellations have been announced for this weekend at Tanglewood. Conductor-pianist Christoph Eschenbach has an inner ear infection and bass-baritone Ferruccio Furlanetto is suffering from a bad cold. Neither will be able to take the stage this weekend.
The news comes one day after the BSO's new Music Director Andris Nelsons bowed out of his Tanglewood performance of Verdi's Requiem because of a head injury. The BSO has replacements lined up, though, including Carlo Montanaro standing in for Nelsons Saturday. Eric Owens stands in for Furlanetto.
Edo de Waart replaces Eschenbach at the podium on Friday. Garrick Ohlsson is now the piano soloist for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in place of the originally scheduled Piano Concerto No. 12. The rest of the program remains unchanged. On Sunday, conductor Ludovic Morlot will replace Eschenbach in the originally scheduled program featuring Ohlsson.
