Emerson College Will Rename School (For 1 Day) After 'Legendary News Anchor' Ron Burgundy

Ron Burgundy — the man with salon-quality hair and the golden voice earned only by a seasoned broadcast news anchor — is coming to Boston.

On Dec. 4 — for one day only — Emerson College will change the name of its communications school to the Ron Burgundy School of Communication in honor of the newsman, whose (fictionalized) fame soared at San Diego’s (also fictionalized) KVWN Channel 4 Action News lo these many years ago.

“I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me. It’s kind of a big deal,” said Burgundy, played by actor Will Ferrell, in a statement.

Of course, this is all just a big PR stunt for the upcoming movie "Anchorman 2," but much of Boston is not even mad. “That’s amazing,” they probably went on to say.

Phillip Glenn, Emerson’s interim dean of communications, expressed similar excitement, saying in a statement that renaming the school for one whole day “compels us to honor the Ron Burgundy that’s inside all of us…to live out our dreams, in full color and matching polyester.”

Emerson will host a naming ceremony starting at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4, which can be streamed live at their website. The school will also screen "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" that evening, which Ferrell will introduce.
