Portraits Of Boston: Whatever We Can Get

“We’re just here trying to make a living. Yes, everybody has dreams. We would like to get somewhere and buy a nice house and nice cars. For now, it’s whatever we can get. We’re immigrants, and we try to work hard every day and give our best. That way, we can stay here and keep on working. You know how it is. We’re taking a little break, and we have to paint 17 floors in this building. We came to the U.S., and everything was supposed to be like a dream. We were supposed to find money on the street. It’s not as easy as we expected, but we’re hanging on. We’re staying tough. There are thousands of people who are unemployed, and they need money too. So we do whatever we’re told to do. It doesn’t matter what it is. We’re trying to make a living here.”
