Portraits Of Boston: Freeing

“A little over two years ago, I left a 19-year relationship. Within six months, I quit my job, turned 50, and lost my father. After that, I digitized all my photos and images of memorabilia I wanted to archive, and then either sold or gave away or sent to the landfill all my possessions, except for a few clothes that fit and some kitchenware. I also moved 1,300 miles away from the area where I had lived for 50 years. It was freeing. I now travel and work when I want to.”

Portraits of Boston is a project of independent photographer Ivan Velinov. He is regularly sharing some of his favorite portraits with WBUR. Visit his website to see the hundreds of portraits he has taken on the streets of Boston.
