Before the reviews have even come out, American Repertory Theater director Diane Paulus’ new musical adaptation of Adrienne Shelly’s 2007 indie film is slated to open in New York in April 2016.

New York producers Barry and Fran Weissler made the announcement Thursday. "Waitress" is currently in previews in Cambridge and is on stage there through Sept. 27.

The production’s creative team includes book writer Jessie Nelson and Grammy Award-nominated singer songwriter Sara Bareilles.
