Story Of Cocoanut Grove Fire Comes To Boston Stage

It was 74 years ago that nearly 500 people died in a Boston fire that shocked the nation. The events of that night are the topic of a play now on stage at the Boston Center for the Arts.

"Inferno: Fire at the Cocoanut Grove 1942" is the title of the play, written by Texas playwright James Hansen Prince, after he researched a distant family connection to the fire.

We spoke with Hansen and Chris O'Neil, of New Bedford, whose grandparents and a great aunt died in the fire.
