A new performing arts venue is likely coming to Boston.

On Friday, the Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the Boston Red Sox, announced plans to open a 5,000-capacity venue in Boston. The “Fenway Theater” would be built on the triangular piece of land sandwiched between Lansdowne and Ipswich Streets next to Fenway Park.

Most notably, the planned performing arts center will be managed by the Fenway Music Company, a new partnership between Fenway Sports Management and Crossroads Presents. Crossroads Presents, a concert promotion and venue management company affiliated with Live Nation, books concerts for a number of other venues in the area, including the House of Blues Boston, Paradise Rock Club, Orpheum Theatre and Brighton Music Hall.

A timeline and specific design plans for the proposed venue have yet to be determined. According to a news release, talks are already underway with the City of Boston. “We look forward to working with Mayor Walsh, the Boston Planning & Development Agency, other city agencies, and our neighbors on the design concepts and operational plans as we embark on the formal approval process for this exciting project,” Fenway Sports Group chairman Tom Werner said in a statement.

The news release also mentioned that “schools, colleges and other neighborhood organizations” would have the opportunity to partner with the new space.

Along with the announcement, Fenway Sports Group released a preliminary design concept. The sketch depicts a three-story complex with a roof deck and front doors facing the crowds streaming down Landsdowne toward the baseball park.
