'Magic Mike The Musical' Won't Be Opening At The Colonial This Fall

"Magic Mike The Musical" has canceled its world premiere at The Colonial Theatre in Boston this November.

In a statement released Thursday, the theater said the producers "don’t feel the musical is ready for production" and are canceling the Boston engagement. It was slated to premiere here from Nov. 30, 2019 to Jan. 5, 2020, before heading to Broadway.

This comes after three members of the musical's high-profile creative team left the project earlier this month. Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Riverdale"), composer Tom Kitt and lyricist Brian Yorkey ("Next to Normal") cited "creative differences," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The musical is based on the popular films "Magic Mike" and "Magic Mike XXL," which were loosely inspired by Channing Tatum's experience as a stripper in Florida before he began working in Hollywood.

Tatum is a producer for the musical, along with Steven Soderbergh, Gregory Jacobs, Nick Wechsler, Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan.

It's not clear why the musical's Boston engagement was canceled, or if it will be rescheduled for a later date.
