Mass. Added 9,300 Jobs In September; Unemployment Rate At 3.9 Percent As Labor Force Falls

Massachusetts gained an estimated 9,300 jobs in September, and the state unemployment rate fell 0.3 percentage points to 3.9 percent, according to the latest jobs report, out Thursday.

Over a year Massachusetts has added more than 62,000 jobs, according to the estimate.

The state's labor force decreased by nearly 11,000 last month, though, and the labor force participation rate — the share of residents 16 or older who worked or actively sought work — fell 0.3 percentage points, to 65.8 percent.

The Massachusetts unemployment rate is below the national rate, which is 4.2 percent.

The jobs numbers and the unemployment rate are based on separate surveys, and both are subject to revision.
