Salem Market Basket Employee Dies After Contracting COVID-19

An employee at the Salem, Mass. Market Basket has died after contracting the coronavirus, the grocery chain said Tuesday.

Vitalina Williams, who worked part-time for Market Basket, worked at the Salem location for 11 years.

"Our hearts go out to her husband Dave who is also a member of our Market Basket family,” Market Basket spokesperson Justine Griffin wrote in a statement.

Williams last worked at the store on March 26, according to the company. Griffin said the store has informed public health officials and brought in a specialized cleaning crew to clean and disinfect the store.

Two associates from the same store also tested positive, Griffin said. Those employees and their close contacts have quarantined themselves.

“We offer our support to her family and coworkers during this difficult time," Griffin said. "We have made counseling services available to any colleagues or family members in need.”
