Coming Soon: U.S. Health Care Bill

This article is more than 10 years old.

(Update: On Sept. 8 The Times posted a copy of the Baucus health care proposal. Read it here.)

Max Baucus, Montana Democrat and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee says a detailed health care reform bill could be circulated as early as today, according to the New York Times. The report says the proposal would likely:

"require most Americans to have health insurance, which they could get from employers or from local insurance exchanges. Employers who did not provide coverage would have to help pay the cost for many of their low-income workers — those who qualify for federal subsidies to buy insurance on their own. Under the proposal, Medicaid would be expanded to cover anyone with income less than 133 percent of the poverty level ($29,327 for a family of four)."
