Legal Immigrants Lose Access to Care

Starting today, some legal immigrants in Massachusetts won't be eligible to receive care at three major Boston-area health care networks — Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center and Cambridge Health Alliance, according to the Boston Globe.

Kay Lazar's report says the three health networks were denied contracts by the insurance company that covers the legal immigrants.

``Patients that expect to have a relationship with a certain doctor or hospital are all of a sudden told they can't have it because an insurance company is intentionally limiting the network'' for no good reason, Paul Levy, chief executive of Beth Israel Deaconess, told the Globe.
