Confidential Document Sheds Light On Hauser Inquiry
The Chronicle of Higher Education obtained a confidential document that sheds some light on the inquiry into possible scientific misconduct by Harvard psychologist and evolutionary biologist Marc Hauser.
The document, apparently turned over to The Chronicle by one of Hauser's former research assistants, reports on coding discrepancies during experiments with rhesus monkey looking at how they recognize sound patterns. The Chronicle says the document:
...tells the story of how research assistants became convinced that the professor was reporting bogus data and how he aggressively pushed back against those who questioned his findings or asked for verification.
