Tweeting And Facebooking The Message On Flu Shots

Dude, get your flu shot! Pana, ¡vacúnate contra la gripe!

If you want to reach young people, it helps to go through their friends. So it makes sense that the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers aims to use Twitter and Facebook to try to persuade more young people to get vaccinated as peak flu season approaches.

Check out their social media campaign in English and Spanish.

From the League:

"Increasingly, we are finding that our younger patients - no matter what their ethnicity — rely on social media for receiving and distributing information on a range of issues, including health care," says Kerin O'Toole, Public Affairs Director for the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers. "This campaign consists of short messages in low-literacy English and Spanish for Facebook and Twitter. Over 150 different organizations, including community health centers, other healthcare entities, youth agencies and ethnic media are being asked to help disseminate the messages to younger folks who were found to be at greater risk of complications from last year's H1N1."

This program aired on January 26, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
